Who We Are
You Matter – No Matter How You Communicate
In 2019, a group of five deaf professionals from the USA and France got together after realizing that there was a need for better accessibility solutions. They realized that most accessibility providers only focus on one angle of the big picture (providing sign language interpreters, closed captioning OR accessible products, etc.). For them, this system didn’t allow organizations to improve their accessibility because they would have to look for and deal with too many separate partners. Why wasn’t there a “one-stop-shop” for accessibility? Their vision started there and so did World In Sign (WIS).
Those five people are WIS’ founders: Robert Mather (USA), Ramesh Mirchandani (USA), Karunya Samuel (USA), Philippe Berthe (France) and David de Keyzer (France). Combined they have substantial experience working with and helping develop prominent video relay services, working and fighting for disability rights, and networking around the world to involve the most skilled individuals within communities of people with disabilities.
To collaborate WIS, LLC succeeds with its mission, going global and finding partners with creativity is essential. WIS Europe was founded by Uwe Schönfeld (CEO) in Germany to support our mission in Europe. Very few countries in Europe offer wide and free access to Video Relay Services for the deaf. With important German partners such as App-Sec Network (now called Uney) and the Zentrum für Kultur und visuelle Kommunikation (ZFK = Center for Culture and visual Communication), WIS Europe is working on using our partners’ technology and network to offer barrier-free emergency calls and barrier-free interpreter services for all Europeans.
"One Technological World"
This is our motto. We are dedicated to providing accessible communication technology and products that unite and empower EVERYONE around the world so they can communicate and access their full potential without any barriers.
WIS is a partner to businesses, education, service providers, and governments to make a product, device, service, or environment as accessible to many people as possible. WIS aims to provide them with the ability to access and benefit from some system or entity as effectively as that provided to others. Such access will be accomplished in the least restrictive and most integrated setting possible, through the provision of reasonable accommodations, modifications to the law, policies, and practice, and/or auxiliary aids and services, whenever necessary. WIS is an expert in identifying issues and developing solutions to achieve access.
