Certified Deaf Interpreter
Essential Functions:
- Providing interpreter services for deaf/hard of hearing directly or through “feeding”
- Providing accurate translation from English text to ASL (not Signed English)
- Serving as a liaison to promote good public relations between the deaf/hard of hearing, staff, and clients
- Exhibiting an interest in self-improvement in written to ASL translation ability, interpreting skills, and in establishing a better understanding of WIS processes
- Other related duties as assigned
Office Space & Equipment Requirements:
- Provided within World In Sign Studio
Other Requirements:
- Experience in translating text to ASL (samples available upon request)
- Must agree to abide by the Dress code policies: dress professionally and wear solid colors
- Dependable in attendance
- Extensive working knowledge of the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
Preferred:
- Working knowledge and experience collaborating with other Certified Deaf Interpreters and ASL Interpreters
- Video interpreting experience (recent)
Required:
- Must be a Certified Deaf Interpreter with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (required)
- Must live in the D.C. – Maryland – Virginia area (required)
Job Type:
- Part-time, contract – up to 25 hours per week
